Since December 2016, Joaquim Nunes is working as the Director of Single Market Policy, Regulation and Implementation,
European Commission. His personal achievements include:

  • January 1998 - August 1999 – Assistant (Policy) to Director-General of the Internal Market
  • August 1999 - April 2004 – Member of Cabinet of Commissioner for Justice and Home Affairs
  • April 2004 – November 2008 – Head of Unit "Fight Against Terrorism and Law Enforcement Cooperation"
  • November 2008 - April 2013 – Head of Unit "Police Cooperation and Access to Information"
  • April 2013 - December 2016 – Director "Public Procurement" / "Single Market for Public Administrations"
  • Since December 2016 – Director "Single Market Policy, Regulation and Implementation"

He studied Faculty of Law from University of Lisbon – 1983/1988
College of Europe, Bruges – 1988/1989;
1989-1994 – lawyer admitted to the Bar of Lisbon, Portugal.
Qualified as a lawyer in Lisbon (1990-1992).
